61 Yard Sale participants urged to practice ‘safe reselling’
PERRYVILLE – Labor Day Weekend marks the end of summer and the start of the annual Highway 61 Yard Sale from Jackson to Bloomsdale along Highway 61 in Southeast Missouri. As yard sellers prepare to setup along the highway and towns on the route, Trendy Kids Consignment Sale wants remind sellers and shoppers to practice Safe Reselling.
Safe Reselling means checking items for recalls before selling them. If an item is recalled, it is illegal to sell it according to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008. This applies to yard sales, Facebook sellers clubs, Craigslist, classified ads, etc. Each year, thousands of recalled children's products are circulated by these secondhand markets which can put our children at risk. Trendy Kids is raising awareness of this preventable issue by being a sponsor of the Highway 61 Yard Sale.
"The older the item, the greater the recall risk for safety defects. In many cases, sellers may not even realize an item has been recalled or know where to find out," said Kathy Barks, Owner of Trendy Kids Consignment Sale. "Trendy Kids is committed to promoting safer resale in SEMO and Southern Illinois by educating sellers, providing access to recalls, and taking a Safety Pledge to quality check items at our seasonal sales in Perryville."
Sellers and shoppers can view the latest recalls from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) at www.cpsc.gov or by using a searchable Recall Finder at www.TrendyKidsSale.com/recalls.php Trendy Kids also consistently posts the latest Children’s related recalls on Pinterest and major recalls on Facebook to keep parents informed. These online resources allow for quick checking of recalls in order to prevent unsafe products from accidentally being sold.
The Highway 61 Yard Sale is August 29th thru August 31st and most sellers will begin at 7am on Friday and Saturday. The official South start/stop point is Jackson MO and the official North start/stop point is Bloomsdale MO. There is no registration fee to be involved in the yard sale and food vendors must comply with local health inspector rules. For additional information, visit www.61yardsale.com
