Kentucky Extension/Landowners visit county farms
Ste. Genevieve Soil and Water Conservation District
STE. GENEVIEVE -- On August 5, 2010 Darian Irvan of the Hickman County University Extension Service of Kentucky brought twenty five farmers from their area to come and see what we do in Missouri.
The visitors tour the award winning Eckenfels Farm. (SGSWCD photos)
Their interests were all about Management Intensive Grazing (MIG). These Kentucky farmers have heard about MIG and have read about it but seeing one in operation puts a whole new perspective on the systems.
We were excited when they contacted Bob Eckenfels (Area III Environmental Stewardship Award winner in 2009) to come and visit his farm to see his operation first hand.
The visitors gather at the Viox farm for conversation after their conservation tour.
The Ste. Genevieve County Soil and Water Conservation District and Natural Resource Conservation Service helped arrange the tour and provided literature about Intensive Grazing.
Sandi Lewis, Resource Conservationist with NRCS in Ste. Genevieve was on hand to answer any questions they may have about programs offered through the EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentive) program.
A tour was set up at the Eckenfels Farm with a luncheon provided and then on to the Viox Farm.
We were proud to show Kentucky farmers what we do in Missouri and hope they all learned something from the tour.
