Sales tax receipts fall in February

JEFFERSON CITY -- Sales tax receipts took a hit in Perryville and Ste. Genevieve last month.

Figures from the Missouri Department of Revenue show both Perryville and Ste. Genevieve receipts were down last month, compared to the same month last year, which had 29 days, because it was a leap year.

Perryville receipts were down $45,144.57 compared to February 2016. The total brought in by the city's three sales taxes was $275,885.98, which brings the year to date total to $504,726.18, but that is down $35,411.14 from the first two months of 2016.

Ste. Genevieve receipts were down $14,898.06 from February 2016. The total brought by the city's three sales taxes was $$133,321.10, which brings the year to date total to $206,027.23, which is down $1,939.47 from the first two months of 2016.

Both towns local option use or catalog taxes also took a hit.

Perryville was down $78,484.91 for the month and down $67,823.82 for the year to date.

Ste. Genevieve was down $8,878.31 for the month and down $2,154.41 for the year to date.
