Business incubator feedback needed

PERRYVILLE -- The Southeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission (RPC) is seeking help from the public.

The commission is working on a project to determine the feasibility of a business incubator/accelerator.

To solicit input on the project, the RPC has posted a survey on its web site www.semorpc.org.

The RPC is seeking input from entrepreneurs, business owners, start-up companies, potential service providers and interested citizens. The survey takes less than five minutes to complete. There are open ended sections allowing respondents to give their general ideas.

A business incubator/accelerator provides a facility where start-up or young growing businesses can develop while using a variety of shared services to hold costs down in that crucial first three years.

In addition, business incubator/accelerators provide a mentoring and counseling service that can help entrepreneurs avoid the common pitfalls of starting a new business. A graduated lease payment schedule and access to business financing are part of the program.

The RPC provides planning and technical support services to the seven southeast Missouri counties of Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Iron, Madison, Perry, St. Francois and Ste. Genevieve.

The commission also offers direct business financing through a Revolving Loan Fund. Economic development is one of the RPC’s central functions and this project is being undertaken in furtherance of that mission.
