Kenneth Albert VanMeter
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 for 78-year-old Kenneth Albert VanMeter of Red Bud, Illinois, formerly of Cahokia, Illinois who died Saturday, November 5, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 1, 1938 in Rockwood, Illinois, the son of Charles "Oley" and Myrtle Tindall VanMeter who both preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, the former Esther Burwick, whom he met while serving his country; two children: Rendy (Kevin) Hahn of Waterloo, Illinois; Kenneth D. (Frankie) VanMeter of Dupo, Illinois; two sisters: Linda Sharon (Dale) Bond of Pocahontas, Illinois and Pamela (Don) Huschle of Sunrise Beach; two grandsons: Benjamin Hahn of Waterloo, Illinois and Jason (Darcy) Hahn of Lincoln, Nebraska; two great grandchildren: Lyla and Chandler Hahn. He was a dear uncle, cousin and friend to many.
He was also preceded in death by an infant sister Bonnie VanMeter.
He graduated from Cahokia High School in 1957.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at McCoy Air force Base in Orlando, Florida.
He retired in 1993 from Monsanto Chemical Co. in Sauget, Illinois, where he worked as a fabrication mechanic.
He was the president of the Illinois division of Winnebago Itaska Travelers Club and an avid hunter and NASCAR fan.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family to purchase a memorial bench in his honor.
A celebration of life gathering for 78-year-old Kenneth Albert VanMeter of Red Bud, Illinois, formerly of Cahokia, Illinois will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Waterloo Sportsman Club in Waterloo, Illinois. (Please dress accordingly with the hunting season, if you wish)
Kenneth requested private cremation to be held.
