A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 14, 2016 for 82 year old Ralph Granger of Chester, IL who passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville, MO.
Ralph was born April 17, 1934 in Detroit, MI, the son of Frank and Emma (Srull) Granger. He married Mardell Moeller on July 22, 1929 in Chester, IL and she survives.
Also surviving are two children, Christine (Danny) Campbell of Mt. Vernon, IL and Mark (Christy) Granger of Denver, CO. One step granddaughter, one step great-granddaughter, three nieces, three nephews, one godchild, six great nieces, six great nephews and one great-great nephew also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, Kevin Granger.
Ralph was a graduate of Concordia University – River Forest, IL and was working on his Doctorate at SIU, Carbondale, IL. He taught for 40 years in the Lutheran school system, teaching in Hamlin, NY, Grand Rapids, MI and Chester, IL where he was a teacher and former principal at St. John Lutheran School.
He was an avid sports fan, especially Detroit teams and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed umpiring and refereeing baseball, softball, basketball and volleyball.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois and the Lutheran Educators Association.
Visitation will be from 5pm to 8pm Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home in Chester, IL. Visitation will continue on Thursday, July 14, 2016 after 9am at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, IL.
Funeral services for 82 year old Ralph Granger will be held at 10am Thursday, July 14, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, IL with Rev. Tim Sims officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Concordia University – River Forest, the New Facility Fund of St. John Lutheran School or the Debt Fund of St. John Lutheran Church.
