Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 6, 2015 for 69 year old John Gibson Butler of Chester, IL who passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at his home in Chester, IL.
John was born July 3, 1946 in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of the late Robert Gibson and Mary Virginia (Duvall) Butler. He married Donella K. Snyder on December 27, 1970 in Mt. Carmel, IL and she survives of Chester, IL.
Also surviving is one son, Bradley Butler of Overland Park, KS. One brother, Carl "Tom" (Ann) Butler of Louisville, KY. One grandson also survives along with cousins and friends.
John worked as a Guidance Counselor and Coach for Chester Community School District #139 and retired in 2005. He coached Girls Basketball and Girls Softball and is the winningest coach in Chester history in both sports. He also coached Golf and Boys Basketball.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chester, Illinois. He was a member of the Elks Club for 50 years, life member of the V.F.W. Post #3553, member of the American Legion Post #487, Eagles Club Aerie #3252, and Chester Country Club. He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving proudly in the U.S. Army with the 199th LIB.
Visitation will be from 5pm to 8pm Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home in Chester, IL. Visitation will continue at 9am Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Chester, IL.
Funeral service for 69 year old John Butler will be at 10am Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Chester, IL with Rev. Roger Reid officiating.
Burial will be in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with a graveside service at 2:30pm Wednesday, July 6, 2016.
Memorials can be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Chester, IL or to the Charlie Hodges Memorial Golf Scholarship.
An Elks Memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 7pm at the Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home.
