A funeral will be held Thursday, January 28th, 2010 for 93-year-old Elmer L. Donze of Ste. Genevieve, who died Sunday, January 24, 2010.

He was born October 28, 1916, in Ste. Genevieve, a son of Lawrence W. Donze and Elizabeth M. (Huck) Donze.

He married Betty Jane Schwent on June 19th, 1950. She survives in Ste. Genevieve.

He is also survived by a son: Elmo L. (Anne) Donze of Perryville and Dorcas E. (Carl) Grass of Ste. Genevieve; a sister: Aileen (Ralph "Dude") Portell of Ste. Genevieve; five grandchildren: Jack and Joy Donze; Alexandra, A.J. and Carl Grass; a great grandchild: Andrew Schilly; a sister-in-law-Yvonne (Clarence) Basler of Ste. Genevieve and a sister in law: Betty Lou Donze of Edgewater, Florida.

He was also preceded in death by a sister: Cornelia Edwards; three brothers: Norbert "Boats" Donze, Donald "Bates" Donze and Jerome "Noonie" Donze; two sisters: Doris Grenier-Neal and Aldine Lalumondier and a brother: Bill Donze

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 27th at the Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve.

He was a pilot in the US Air Force during World War II; member of the Foundation for Restoration of Ste. Genevieve; American Legion Post 150; Ste. Genevieve Knights of Columbus Council 1037; Ste. Genevieve 4th Degree Assembly; Missouri Broadcasters Assn; National Association of Broadcasters; served as an Honorary Colonel for Gov. Blair and for both terms for Gov. Warren Hearnes.

He owned KSGM Radio from 1947 to 1987; owned Background music; brought cable television to Ste. Genevieve; had the Elmo Donze Orchestra; owned the Hilltop Club; Hilltop Drive-In Theatre; original owner of the Perryville Monitor; Donze Cut Rate, Donze's Jewelery; Donze Applicance; Donze Insurance Agency; member of the Missouri Illinois Bridge Commission; instrumental in bringing bus service to Ste. Genevieve and the development of Pere Marquette Park; received the Lifetime Service Award from the Ste. Genevieve Area Chamber of Commerce in 2007.

A funeral for 93-year-old Elmer L. Donze of Ste. Genevieve will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 28th, 2010 at the Church of Ste. Genevieve. The Rev. Dennis Schmidt will officiate.

Burial will be at Valle Spring Cemetery, in Ste. Genevieve.
