Funeral services will be Saturday, January 18, 2003 for 96-year-old Hazel Stanley of Chester, IL who died Wednesday, January 15, 2003.

Born November 12, 1906 in Marion, IL, the daughter of Edward Mack Stanley and Ollie May Rawls.

Survivors include one niece, Bonnie Laudan of Chester, IL. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Her parents, one brother and one sister in law preceded her in death.

Miss Stanley, who taught in the Chester school system for 46 years, devoted her life to the nurturing and education of several generations of students. She began teaching at the age of 19 in a one-room country schoolhouse in Ebenezer. She also taught at the Kaskaskia Island School, living with the families of some of the students she taught. At one time she has taught "nearly all the grades" at Chester Grade School, and in 1946 she began her career as high school English teacher. She retired from teaching in 1972.

Friends may call after 5pm Friday, January 17, 2003 at the Welge Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester, IL.

Funeral services for Hazel Stanley will be Saturday, January 18, 2003 at 11:00am at the Welge Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester, Il with Rev. Marvin "Bud" Bennett officiating. Miss Stanley’s body will be then cremated.

Memorials can be made to the First Presbyterian Church and to Memorial Hospital in Chester, IL.
