Claude M. Picou
A funeral will be held Sunday, July 22nd, 2001 for 81-year-old Claude M.
Picou, formerly of Kaskaskia, who died Thursday, July 19, 2001 at his home.
He was born December 6th, 1919 in Kaskaskia, the son of Roy L. Picou and
Millie E. Layton. They both preceded him in death.
He married Julia Layton in 1947. She survives.
He is also survived by eight sons: Ben of Chester, IL, Dan of Galatia,
IL, David, Ed, Peter, Ted and Tim, all of Kaskaskia, and Leo of White Hall,
Three daughters also survive: Christina Martin of Carbondale, IL; Toni
Picou of White Hall, IL and Claudia Vani of Farmington.
He is also survived by two sisters: Lucille Ratcliff and Madaline Thomure,
both of Brewer; and 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
He taught school and was the principal at Kaskaskia Grade School before
moving to White Hall, IL in 1970 and became principal at the White Hall and
Hillview Elementary Schools.He retired in 1981. He was also a Marine Corps
veteran, serving during World War II.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, July 21st at Basler Funeral
Home in St. Mary.
A private funeral for 81-year-old Claude M. Picou will be Sunday, July
Burial will be in the Kaskaskia cemetery.
