A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 6, 1999 for 80 year old Alice
Petty, formerly of Sparta, who died on Tuesday.
Born December 13, 1918 in Sparta, the daughter of Samuel and Lily (Blunt) Smart. She
married Marshal Petty in Sparta, in 1933, and he preceded in death in 1984.
She is survived by one daughter; Lilian Holian of Drummond Island, Michigan, and one
daughter in law, Barbara Petty of Paris, Tn. Also surviving are one brother, Samuel Smart
of Sparta, 2 sisters, Beatrice Shomaker of Dixon, Ill., and Edith Johnson of Galesburg,
Ill. Five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister, and one son.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Sparta, and also a member of Eastern
Star, White Shrine, and Daughters of the Nile.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 6 8pm at the McDaniel Funeral Home, in
Sparta. Visitation will also be on Friday from 7:30 am till the time of the
service. Eastern Star services will be held at 7pm Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral
services for Alice Petty, formerly of Sparta will be held at 11 am on Friday, at the
McDaniel Funeral Home in Sparta. The Rev. Lanny Mellinger will officiate and burial will
be in Caledonia Cemetery, in Sparta.
