Coulterville man to be sentenced this month
A Coulterville, IL man will be sentenced later this month in Randolph County court.
49 year old Thomas Sudja was found guilty of the offense of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm following a bench trial before Judge Gene Gross.
Randolph County States Attorney Jeremy Walker reports Sudja was found guilty of discharging a firearm in a reckless manner, thereby endangering the bodily safety of another, in rural Coulterville on February 22, 2017.
A sentencing hearing has been set for November 27, 2017 at 1:00 P.M.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation in this matter.
"The testimony at trial revealed the Defendant was sitting on his porch in rural Coulterville," said Walker, "came off the porch and fired his shotgun at a vehicle. No one was hurt and the vehicle was not struck, but this action, in our opinion, threatened the driver of the vehicle. The Defendant admitted he had shot the gun, but said he was firing in the opposite direction of the vehicle. Mr. Sudja has no prior felony convictions, so he will not be going to DOC. However, we wanted to ensure his FOID card privileges would be revoked. This conviction will do so."
