Chester man arrested after eight-hour standoff with authorities
A Chester, IL man was taken into custody this morning after an eight-hour standoff with authorities.
40 year old Toby Latham was taken into custody around 7:45am this morning from an apartment building at the corner of George and Stacey Streets in Chester. The building use to be the former home of the Chester Clinic many years ago.
It all began with threats allegedly made by Latham on social media. The standoff began around 11pm last night. Officers with the Chester Police Department, Randolph County Sheriff's Department and Illinois State Police worked throughout the night to bring the standoff to a peaceful ending.
After being led from the building by authorities in handcuffs, Latham was taken to the Randolph County Jail in Chester where charges against him are pending.
