March 18, 2010 Spring sports seasons begin Friday at Valle STE. GENEVIEVE -- The spring sports season starts Friday for Valle Catholic High School in Ste. Genevieve. That's when the Warriors baseball team host Notre Dame at 4:30. The Valle track and field team opens Tuesday at Ste. Genevieve. The Warriors golf team opens Wednesday against St. Pius. Spring sports begin Tuesday at Ste. Genevieve STE. GENEVIEVE -- The spring sports season opens Tuesday with three home events at Ste. Genevieve High School. The baseball team hosts Jackson Tuesday at 4 p.m. The golf team hosts St. Vincent Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The track and field team holds its Ste. Genevieve Open track meet with Valle and Crystal City on Tuesday. March 15, 2010 Connor wins regional KC Free Throw contest Scott Basler BLOOMSDALE – Twelve-year-old Connor Basler of Bloomsdale placed first in his age division in the regional Knights of Columbus free throw contest held last month in Jackson. Connor made 22 of 25 free throws.
Connor is competing Sunday in Jefferson City in the state championships. Connor is representing the Bloomsdale Knights of Columbus Council 1848. Girls summer softball signups underway STE. GENEVIEVE -– Signups for the 2010 Ste. Genevieve Girls’ Summer Softball League are now underway. Applications must be mailed or dropped off at the Community Center by April 23, 2010. Applications are available at the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center. The Girls’ Softball League would like to make parents aware of a few changes regarding registration that have been made. The divisions are as follows: COED T-Ball (ages 4-5), Mini (K – Grade 2), Junior (Grades 3 – 5), & Senior (Grades 6 – 8). Determination of grade is based on the 2009 – 2010 school year. The coaches pitch to the girls in the Mini Division. If the parents would like for their child to play T-ball, the Community Center offers T-ball for children ages 4-5. The T-ball league is designed for children with little or no experience in playing baseball or softball. Blues going green, and silver St. Louis Blues ST. LOUIS – Fans of the St. Louis Blues will paint the Scottrade Center green on Tuesday night, March 16, when the Blues return for their first home game in over a month for a 7 p.m. contest against the Colorado Avalanche in the team’s second annual Monsanto Green Game. All fans in attendance will receive a green Blues T-shirt, courtesy of Monsanto in recognition of the company’s continuing efforts to protect and responsibly use the natural resources of the planet. And, on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day, the color will bring a touch of festivity as well as purpose. Prior to the game, the Blues will honor David Backes and Erik Johnson for the silver medals they earned as members of the U.S. Men’s Olympic Hockey Team last month in Vancouver. Paul Stastny of the Colorado Avalanche, a St. Louisan and U.S. teammate of Backes and Johnson, will also be recognized during the pregame ceremony. "We have a lot to celebrate on Tuesday, starting with the return of Blues Hockey," said Peter McLoughlin, CEO of Blues Enterprises. "Blues fans should plan to arrive early to salute our U.S. silver medalists, embrace the green efforts of Monsanto on behalf of our environment and of course, the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day." The Blues launched their own Blues Green Team initiative last year in an effort to encourage fans to apply environmentally sound practices to their personal and professional lives. By way of example, the Blues incorporated sustainability methods into its daily operation, such as placing eco-friendly soaps, detergents and light bulbs throughout Scottrade Center while making it possible for fans to recycle their plastic bottles and aluminum by depositing them in recycling containers throughout the building. Meanwhile, each desk in the Blues front office contains a recycling trash bin, and only recycled copier paper is being purchased in an effort to better manage company waste. These efforts are being supported generously by Monsanto, which is committed to working with farmers to produce more crops while conserving resources like land, water and energy.
