Golf: Ste. Gen 182, Valle 187

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Ste. Genevieve beat Valle 182-187. Valle coach Romaine Holman reported the individual scores:

Ste. Genevieve's Andrew Winkler was the medalist at 42.

Kyle Arnold had a 43. Torie Herzog had a 44 and Justin Sexauer had a 53.

Valle's Kellen Bader and Nick Trautman each had a 45. Cory Donze had a 46. Nick Joggerst had a 51.

Instructional baseball camp slated

From a news release

STE. GENEVIEVE -- A youth league baseball instructional camp will be held Saturday May 17th. This is for all players who have registered to play baseball this summer in Ste. Genevieve.

Steve Bieser and the area coaches will conduct the fundamentals camp for all players.

Coaches who are signed up to help coach in the league this summer are encouraged to attend.

There is no additional cost for the camp.

The only requirement is that the player is signed up for the town league.

Below are the details:

Ages 5-6 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Ages 7-9 from 11 a.m. to noon

Ages 10-12 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Ages 13-14 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Camp will take place at the Yanks South Field. Each player should bring glove and bat if they have one.

Baseball: Valle 7, St. Vincent 4

PERRYVILLE -- St. Vincent (10-10) stranded three runners on base in the top of the 7th inning in a late attempt to upset the Valle Warriors (17-5) in a game heard on KSGM Tuesday night.

Both teams' early runs came in the first inning. St. Vincent's Kyle Rollet hit a two run dinger to take an early lead, only to see it fade in the home half. Cole Bieser scored on a wild pitch, and Nathan Geile doubled home two more in the bottom of the first for a 3-2 lead.

Valle would never trail again.

VHS' starting pitcher, Mike Greminger, took the win in four innings of work. He helped his teams' cause by scoring three times, once with a solo homerun in the 6th.

The Indians' Darin Yamnitz was game, but took the loss in 4 1/3 innings.

Valle's Andrew Bader struggled, but got the final out in relief of Jason Blum for the save.

Greminger ended up batting 3 for 4. Nathan Geile had 3 RBI on his two doubles.

Valle takes on Ste. Genevieve Friday before starting District play at South Iron next week.

St. Vincent tangles with visiting Leopold Thursday before starting their District play in Charleston.

St. Vincent has drawn the sixth seed in the district tournament and will play No. 3 seed Chaffee Monday at 10:30 a.m.

Scott City got the top seed in the district. Charleston was seeded second, followed by Chaffee, Crystal City in the fourth spot, Kelly fifth, St. Vincent, East Prairie seventh and Woodland eight.

Girls’ Track: Valle wins 15th district crown

FULTON – The Valle girls’ track team finished in first place in the Class 1 District Meet held Saturday at Fulton. It is their 14th first place finish in the last 16 years and their second consecutive win.

Valle qualified 12 athletes and 13 different events for the sectional meet.

Valle came in first with 135 points, New Haven was second with 73 and Saxony Lutheran came in third with 63. Wellsville-Middletown came in fourth (61), followed by Missouri School for the Deaf (46), Clopton (42), Oran (38), Chamois (33), Carnahan (12), Eskridge (12), Prairie Home (12), Scott County Central (7), Silex (8), Community R-6 (1) and Bell City (1)

Baseball: Ste. Genevieve falls to Farmington

FARMINGTON -- Ste. Genevieve fell to Farmington 5-3 Friday in the championship game of the MAAA Conference Tournament.

Farmington scored all five runs in the second inning. Ste. Genevieve got on the scoreboard with one run in the fourth and two in the fifth.

The Dragons scored their three runs on six hits with one error. Farmington had five runs on four hits with one error.

Ste. Genevieve plays at Herculaneum today at 4:30 p.m.

Baseball: Valle 3, Potosi 1 in conference tourney

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Valle downed Potosi 3-0 Friday for third place in the MAAA Conference Tournament.

Freshman Andrew Bader was the winning pitcher. He gave up no runs on three hits. He struck out seven and walked one.

Nathan Geile was 2-2 with an RBI.

The 16-5 Warriors host St. Vincent Tuesday at 6 p.m. The JV Game begins at 4 p.m. The Varsity game will be broadcast live on KSGM.

Golf: Valle falls to visiting Fredericktown

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Valle fell to visiting Fredericktown 171-196 Thursday afternoon.

Kellen Bader had a 40. Nick Trautman had a 50.

The Warriors next play in the MAAA Conference Tournament at North County High School in Bonne Terre Monday.

Baseball: SGHS to play for conference tourney crown

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Ste. Genevieve will play for the MAAA conference championship tomorrow night. The Dragons downed Potosi 3-2 in eight innings yesterday. Ste. Gen faces Farmington at 7 tomorrow night for the conference crown.

Valle fell to Farmington 4-1 and will play Potosi for third place at 4:30 Friday.

The games are being played at Wilson Rozier Park in Farmington.

Golf: Valle hosts districts

STE. GENEVIEVE -- St. Vincent came in second, Saxony Lutheran was third and Valle was sixth at the District 1 golf tournament Valle hosted Wednesday at the Ste. Genevieve Golf Course.

Thayer won it with a 350, St. Vincent had a 371 for second, Saxony Lutheran had a 384 for third, followed by Bloomfield at 399, Advance at 413, Valle at 429, Summersville at 460, and Viburnum 489.

Golf: SGHS is third in tri-match

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Ste. Genevieve came in third in a tri match with Potosi and De Soto Tuesday. Potosi won it with a 176. De Soto was second with a 182 and Ste. Genevieve was third with a 196.

Kyle Arnold had a 45 to lead the Dragons. Justin Sexauer had a 47. Andrew Winkler had a 49 and Ethan Braun had a 55.

The Dragons are back in action Monday when they travel to North County for the MAAA Conference Tournament.

Baseball: SGHS, VHS advance in MAAA Tourney

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Valle and Ste. Genevieve both scored wins in the MAAA Tournament Tuesday. Ste. Gen topped Caledonia and will play Potosi today at 4:30. Valle downed Fredericktown 9-1 and will play Farmington at 7. Both games are being played in Farmington.

BONNE TERRE – Ste. Genevieve came in second and Valle came in fourth in the girls division of the MAAA Junior Varsity Conference Track Meet held Tuesday at North County High School.

Blues 3rd among NHL teams in fan satisfaction

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Blues rank 3rd among NHL teams in this year’s ESPN Fan Satisfaction Rankings. Overall, the Blues jumped 49 spots (largest increase among National Hockey League teams) from last year and rank 14th among all teams from Major League Baseball, the NHL, the National Football League and the National Basketball Association. The Blues 3rd ranking among NHL teams places them behind Anaheim (5th) and Detroit (12th).

Valle holds second Run Through History

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Valle Catholic High School hosted its second annual Run Through History Saturday. This year's event was co-sponsored by Western Catholic Union.

The event drew 30 one-mile participants and 47 five-kilometer runners. Athletes came from as far away as Mayfield, Kentucky; St. Louis, Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Scott City, St. Ann, St. Charles and University City.

In the one-mile run William Zoughaib was first to cross the finish line with a time of 6:14.23. He also finished third overall in the 5-k with a time of 20:54.07.

In the 5-k, the overall winner was Shawn Brumfield of Ste. Genevieve with a time of 19:24.93. Dana Kertz of Ste. Genevieve was the first female to cross the finish line (4th overall) with a time of 23:29.13. This is a new female course record.

Valle would like to thank all those who participated in this year's event and hope to see you again next year.

Baseball: Ste. Genevieve 6, Perryville 4

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Jeremy Vaeth pitched six strong innings to lead Ste. Genevieve over Perryville 6-4 in a game heard yesterday on KSGM.

Vaeth allowed 4 runs on 6 hits. Caleb Whitworth got the last two outs for the save.

Perryville's Ethan Reiss struggled, pitching just two innings, and allowing all 6 of the Dragon runs. Justin Lukefahr shut the Dragons out the rest of the way.

The Pirates' Andrew Martin had a solo home run in the 3rd. Jon Hecht had a two-RBI double in the 5th.

Every Dragon reached base at least once in the contest. Curt Roth had three RBIs.

Golf: Valle falls to St. Vincent

PERRYVILLE -- Valle lost at St. Vincent Wednesday, 178-191.

The Warriors’ junior varsity lost 166-168.

Valle plays Ste. Genevieve and Herculaneum today.

Zoughaib children set state records

CHARLESTON – Two young members of Ste. Genevieve's Zoughaib family set new state records in their respective age divisions at the Charleston Azalea Festival 5K.

Jenya Zoughaib set a new seven-year-old record with a time of 25:37.5 and nine-year-old William Zoughaib set a new state record with a time of 20:30.7.

These runners were among 190 who participated in the 30th annual event along with several walkers.

Baseball: Valle 14, Kingston 1

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Valle won at Kingston 14-1 to finish their conference season undefeated.

Michael Ramer got the win. He threw four innings, gave up the one run, unearned, on five hits with three strikeouts. Michael Greminger and Jason Blum relieved.

Cole Bieser had another big night at the plate. He was 2-3 with two RBIs. Brandon Wolk was 2-2 with two RBIs. Nathan Geile had a big lead off triple in the third inning.

The Warriors play Park Hills at 10 a.m. Friday.

Golf: Valle loses to West County

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Valle lost to West County 189-192 Tuesday.

The Warriors host St. Vincent today.

Golf: Ste. Gen second in trimatch with PHS, Park Hills

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Ste. Genevieve came in second in a tri-match with Park Hills and Perryville.

Park Hills won it with a 177, Ste. Genevieve had a 197 and Perryville had a 214.

Justin Sexauer had a 45 to lead the Dragons. Matt Meyer had a 48. Ethan Braun had a 51. Kyle Arnold had a 53.

Ste. Genevieve plays Valle and Herculaneum Thursday at 4:30.

Golf: Valle downs Viburnum

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Valle played in a tri-match with Viburnum and Arcadia Valley.

Viburnum only had four players, so Valle scored a win over them, but fell 159 to 203 to Arcadia Valley.

The Warriors play West County today.

Baseball: Valle 7, Vianney 0

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Valle downed visiting Vianney 7-0.

"Nathan Geile threw a great ballgame," said Coach Judd Naeger.

Geile pitched seven innings, allowed two hits and struck out 11.

"Cole Bieser had a big day at the plate," coach Naeger added.

Bieser was 3-4 with an RBI and Michael Greminger had a two RBI triple in the second inning.

The 11-3 Warriors play at Kingston today.

POTOSI -- Ste. Genevieve was ninth and Valle 10th in the boys division of the Trojan Relays at Potosi Friday.

Potosi won it with 145 points, Poplar Bluff was second at 104.50 and North County came in third with 79. Farmington was fourth at 70, followed by Perryville (69), Herculaneum (51), Windsor (49), Viburnum (40.50), Ste. Genevieve (38), Valle (26), Fredericktown (18), Notre Dame (11) and Grandview (1).

Kelsey Abt came in fourth in the discus (90-5.5).

Rachael Naeger came in fifth in the 1600 run (6:04.7), sixth in the 3200 run (13:16.0), ran on the seventh place 1600 relay (4:46.7) and ran on the seventh place 3200 relay (11:33.0).

Rachel Bruns came in sixth in the triple jump (30-6, a personal best) and placed eighth in the long jump (12-9.25).

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Valle topped Caledonia 13-2 to win the small schools division of the conference for the second straight year.

Freshman Andrew Bader was the winning pitcher. Ryan Roth pitched in relief.

Cole Bieser was 3-3 with an RBI, Michael Greminger was 1-2 with an RBI, Casey Koller was 2-2 with two RBIs, Nathan Geile was 1-1 with two RBIs, Aaron Basler was 3-3 with four RBIs and Jason Blum was 3-3 with three RBIs.

Golf: SGHS 13th, VHS 17th at Saxony Tourney

PERRYVILLE -- Ste. Genevieve was 13th and Valle was 17th out of 20 teams at the Saxony Lutheran Invitational Golf Tournament Thursday in Cape Girardeau.

Lindbergh won it with a 330, Cape Central came in second at 340, and Dexter came in third at 341. Farmington was fourth at 345, followed by Notre Dame 349, Park Hills 360, Jackson 361, Sikeston 373, New Madrid County Central 386, Clearwater 390, St. Vincent 392, North County 395, Ste. Baseball: Valle 25, West County 4

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Valle won at West County 25-4 Wednesday.

It was just one of them games," coach Judd Naeger reported. "Things just sort of piled up for us."

"We had 24 hits total by 20 different guys, so everyone got in and that was good," coach Naeger added.

Girls’ Track: Valle third at Glasstown Relays

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Valle came in third in the girls division of the Glasstown Relays at Crystal City Wednesday. The boys’ team results were not reported.

Windsor won the girls division with 164 points. Crystal City came in second with 135 followed by Valle with 126. De Soto had 83 for fourth, followed by Grandview (82), Viburnum (34), St. Pius (27), Park Hills (9) and Arcadia Valley (7).

Baseball: Valle 16, Arcadia Valley 4

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Valle won at Arcadia Valley 16-4 to improve to 8-3 on the season.

Michael Ramer was the winning pitcher. He pitched five innings. He allowed four runs, one earned, on five hits. He struck out four and walked none.

Cole Bieser had two hits and an RBI, Nick Uding had one hit and an RBI, Michael Greminger had one hit, Casey Koller was 2-4 with three RBIs. Little Hearts Trail Run slated

Cross Trails Medical Center will be hosting the first annual "Little Hearts Trail Run" run/walk to benefit the Little Hearts, Inc congenital heart defects organization.

It will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008.

The entry fee is $20.00 if received before May 5, $25.00 after May 5 until Race Day. Make checks payable to CTMC

The 5K run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. with pre-registration at 8 a.m. at the Cross Trails Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Directions: I-55 to exit 96 and go east on William/Rte K. Go 1.4 miles and take a right on Broadview. Cross Trails is located at 408 S Broadview.

Baseball: Ste. Gen falls to Jackson

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Ste. Genevieve lost to Jackson 4-2 Monday.

The Dragons scored one in the first and one in the third for a 2-0 lead that lasted until Jackson scored four runs in the fifth inning.

Ste. Gen had their two runs on five hits with no errors. Jackson had four runs on three hits with one error.

The Dragons host Potosi today.

Cardinals to honor Jackie Robinson’s legacy

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Cardinals Monday announced that in conjunction with Major League Baseball and other teams with home games today, the club will recognize the impact of Jackie Robinson on baseball with a special pre-game tribute. Throughout baseball, today will be recognized as "Jackie Robinson Day" with the Jackie Robinson logo included on base jewels, commemorative home plates and official dugout lineup cards.

The Cardinals special day will include Cardinals Hall of Famer Lou Brock who will greet two Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars from the St. Louis area and catch a ceremonial pitch from each scholar. Brock will then be joined at home plate by St. Louis Manager Tony La Russa and Milwaukee Brewers Manager Ned Yost as a special video tribute is played.

In honor of the contributions Robinson made to Major League baseball and society, the entire St. Louis team will be wearing uniform No. 42. The Milwaukee Brewers’ Prince Fielder will be the designated team member to honor Robinson’s memory.

Aaron Basler threw three innings and was the winning pitcher. He allowed one run on two hits and struck out six.

Basler helped his own cause with three RBIs, Cole Bieser was 1-3 with two RBI, Casey Koller was 2-4, Christopher Moulton was 1-3 with two RBIs, Michael Ramer and Zach Weiler each had a hit and an RBI.

FARMINGTON – Ste. Genevieve came in second and Valle was 10th in the girls division of the Simpson Relays at Farmington Friday. (The results from the boys division were not available)
