Jobless rate rises again

JEFFERSON CITY -- The jobless rate rose again in Perry and Ste. Genevieve Counties in November when compared with the same month one year ago according to figures released by the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

Perry County unemployment jumped to 6.7 percent from 4.9 percent. The rate had been 6.9 percent in October of this year. The actual number of people looking for work rose from 504 a year ago to 688, which is down from October's 724.

The Ste. Genevieve County jobless rate jumped to 9.6 percent from 6.9 percent. The rate had been 9.5 percent in October of this year. The number of people looking for work rose from 688 to 956 which is down very slightly from October's 957.

The unemployment rates in surrounding counties:

Jefferson: 10.1, up from 7.6 a year ago

St. Francois: 11, up from 7.8 a year ago

Bollinger: 8.6, up from 5.8 a year ago

Cape Girardeau: 6.6, up from 4.8 a year ago

Statewide: 9.2, up from 6.5 a year ago.

The national unemployment rate: 9.4, up for 6.5 a year ago.
