State will consider nominations for National Register

Missouri Department of Natural Resources

JEFFERSON CITY -- The Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation will consider nominations to the National Register of Historic Places during its quarterly meeting today in Jefferson City.

Seven nominations are scheduled to be considered for listing in the National Register. Properties on the agenda include historic residences, commercial buildings and historic districts. Approximately 580 historic buildings and structures are represented in the nominations. The nominated properties under consideration are listed below:


· Central Carondelet Historic District (Boundary Increase III), Roughly bounded by Bates St., Interstate 55, South Broadway and Holly Hills, St. Louis
· Wellston Loop Commercial Historic District, Roughly bounded by the city limits on the west, alley south of Martin Luther King Drive on the south, Clara Ave. on the east and the alley north of Martin Luther King on the north, St. Louis
· Federal Cold Storage Co. Buildings, 1800-28 North Broadway, St. Louis
· Sedalia Commercial Historic District (Boundary Increase), 700-712 S. Ohio, 200 S. Moniteau, 101-108 W. Pacific, 104-220 W. Main, 208-400 W. Second St., Sedalia, Pettis County
· George, Todd M., House, 408 SE 3rd Street, Lee's Summit, Jackson County
· Rankin Hall, 402 N. 13th Street, Tarkio, Atchison County
· Masonic Temple , 217 E. Harrison St., Kirksville, Adair County

In addition to nominations to the National Register of Historic Places, the council will receive status reports on programs provided by the State Historic Preservation Office, discuss business related to its function and duties, and elect officers for 2010.  

The Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation is a 12-member group of historians, architects, archaeologists and citizens with an interest in historic preservation. The council is appointed by the governor and works with the Department of Natural Resources' State Historic Preservation Office, which administers the National Register of Historic Places program for Missouri. The council meets quarterly to review Missouri property nominations to the National Register, the nation's honor roll of historic properties. Approved nominations are forwarded to the Keeper of the National Register in Washington, D.C., for final approval.
