Flu vaccine in short supply in county

By Don Pritchard

PERRYVILLE -- The drive thru flu shot clinic the Perry County Health Department was running this morning had to shut down early -- when the seasonal flu vaccine workers were administering, ran out.

Director Judy Laurentius says a clinic is being held this afternoon at the Frohna Clinic from 1-4 p.m., but only a limited supply is available there. By the way, the flu vaccine is being administered to Perry County residents only.

Laurentius says the county health department also has a very limited quantity of the H1N1 flu mist.

It is being administered this afternoon from 3-6 p.m. at the health department main office.

Those eligible to receive the H1N1 flu mist are those aged two to 49 years who are healthy and not allergic to eggs or have a history of Guillen Barre syndrome.

Laurentius also noted the county has a limited supply of preservative free H1N1 flu vaccine which is only being administered to pregnant women and those receiving this vaccination must have a doctor's order.
