Patrol is seeking trooper applicants

Missouri State Highway Patrol

JEFFERSON CITY -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol, a premiere law enforcement agency, is testing for new troopers. The Patrol is encouraging qualified individuals of all backgrounds to apply, and will offer testing at nine different locations in Missouri, and one location in Illinois. Those who successfully complete testing will be eligible to continue in the selection process for the 93rd Recruit Class, scheduled to begin training January 3, 2011. The application deadline is April 2, 2010.

To be eligible candidates must possess a minimum of 60 college credits, or two years of federal active duty military service with an honorable discharge, or two years of POST-certified, full-time law enforcement experience.

Troop C (Weldon Spring/St. Louis area) -- February 20, 2010

Troop D (Springfield area) -- February 27, 2010

Western Illinois University (Macomb, Illinois, area) -- February 27, 2010.

Troop I (Waynesville area) -- March 6, 2010

Troop E (Poplar Bluff area) -- March 13, 2010

Troop A (Lees Summit, Kansas City, area) -- March 20, 2010

Troop C (Weldon Spring/St. Louis area) -- March 20, 2010

Troop B (Kirksville area) -- March 27, 2010

Troop G (West Plains area) -- March 27, 2010

Troop H (St. Joseph area) -- April 10, 2010

General Headquarters (Jefferson City area) -- April 26 through May 1, 2010

The starting salary for trooper is $3,034 per month while in training, $3,217 per month after 6 months, and $3,508 per month at two years of service. Other benefits include group health insurance, paid retirement, career advancement, and more.

The selection process is a multi-phase testing procedure including written examination, a physical fitness for duty assessment, polygraph examination, background investigation, and oral interview board. After a conditional offer of employment, the applicant must successfully complete a medical examination (to include vision and hearing), psychological examination, a psychological interview, and drug-screening test.
