Teens charged with school break-ins

Perryville Police Department

PERRYVILLE -- A 10-month investigation by the Perryville Police Department has resulted in charges against two teens in connection with a series of burglaries at the Perry County Middle and Elementary Schools.

Eric R. Blandford

David M. Tucker

19-year-old Eric R. Blandford and 17-year-old David M. Tucker were each charged Wednesday with three counts of felony burglary and three counts of second-degree property damage.

They were each also charged with two counts of theft of a controlled substance and two counts of misdemeanor theft.

Police Chief Keith Tarillion says the two entered the middle school by forcing open the door and causing damage to the door handles. Once inside the school buildings, the chief says they broke into the nurse's office and stole several bottles of Adderall, a schedule two controlled substance, from a medicine cabinet where student medications were kept.

The chief says Blandford and Tucker also stole about $40 worth of snack food from a storage area at the elementary school and a laptop.

The incidents are estimated to have occurred between March 20 and April 14, 2009.

Chief Tarillion says investigators traveled to St. Joseph to interview Blandford, who is currently serving a sentence from a previous conviction. During the interview, Chief Tarillion said Blandford admitted his involvement in the crimes.

The police chief credited the work done by the investigators, Lt. Direk Hunt and Det. Jon Lanier for doing an excellent job in solving the case.
