St. Mary man charged with July 2009 break in, theft

Perryville Police Department

PERRYVILLE -- Police in Perryville are reporting the arrest of a 20-year-old St. Mary man on burglary and stealing charges.

Police Chief Keith Tarillion says Jacob D. Berkbuegler is charged in connection with a July 2009 burglary at a Perryville residence.

Chief Tarillion says his department was notified July 10, 2009 of a burglary in which someone entered the victim’s house while he was gone and removed a Hewlett Packard Laptop computer valued at $750.

Chief Tarillion says Berkbuegler was interviewed in July of 2009 but at that time police did not have information to charge him with the crime.

He says police continued to gather information over the past several months.

Then last week investigators from the police department and the Perry County Sheriff’s Office re-interviewed Berkbuegler.

Chief Tarillion says during the interview Berkbuegler confessed to the July burglary and the laptop computer was subsequently recovered.

Berkbuegler also faces additional charges for other crimes that occurred in Perry County.

The Perry County Sheriff’s Department will file those charges.

Berkbuegler was being held in lieu of $5,000 cash only bond.
