Perryville woman heads to Haiti

PERRYVILLE – Two local women are members of a group from around the area who have left for Haiti and will stay for about two weeks.

Amanda Hotop of Perryville and Lisa Bird of Farmington, who is a registered nurse at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital will will meet other volunteers in Miami.

The group is only able to take what they can fit into two 50 pound suitcases and a carry on bag and will be taking items that have been donated by local residents, hospitals, pharmacies and other organizations.

Many have also donated money to help them purchase items while they are there.

The group is also accepting donations on a Web site: growinghopeforhaiti.org.

They accept online payments that they can access from Haiti to purchase supplies or will be accepting checks in the mail.

Someone will be depositing the money into a checking account that they will also be able to access.
