Opening ceremonies were held Saturday morning on the porch of the Great River Road Interpretive Center.

Rosie Hughey sang the national anthem with the Ste. Genevieve German Band accompanying.

Jour de Fete Committee President Phyllis Flieg honored the late Fran Ballinger, one of the founding members of the Jour de Fete committee and Jack and Meta Trapp for their efforts with the Jour de Fete.

Barbara Basler introduced the Project Pioneer families -- the Meyer and Meyers family and the Beauchamps.

Donna Harris of Illinois represented the Beauchamp family and Gill Pfaff of Pevely represented the Meyer and Meyers family.

Basler announced that the LaHaye and Schweigert families would be honored next year.

The late Ralph Thomure was also honored during the program with the playing of a recording of his singing Dear Old Ste. Genevieve recorded during the opening ceremonies of the 1999 Jour de Fete.

The Les Petits Chanteurs closed the program with French and German songs.
