Chester High School holds commencement exercise

The 122nd commencement exercise at Chester High School was held Sunday inside a very warm, humid Daniel Colbert Memorial Gymnasium as a very large crowd turned out for the 3pm exercise.

Chester High School Principal Keith Kittell opened the ceremony by welcoming the crowd and says the four years of high school has prepared the Class of 2008 for their next step in life.

Salutatorian Christine McClure, daughter of Mike and Susan McClure, said the teachers at CHS inspired the Class of 2008 to work hard to graduate from Chester High.

Then it was time to hand out the diplomas.

Valedictorian Kevin Koeneman, son of Paul and Kyle Koeneman, said he was inspired by a classic rock song he heard on the way home from his final track meet.

Senior Class President Yasmin Darwish led the graduated in the traditional turning of the tassel to signify the Class of 2008 was indeed CHS graduates and then they walked out of Daniel Colbert Gym for the final time.

Later Sunday night, the Class of 2008 and their guests partied the night away during Project Graduation held at the Perry Park Center. That party lasted until 5am Monday morning.
