Memorial Day Service set for Monday in Chester

The City of Chester will pause Monday morning for the annual Memorial Day Service set for 10am in Evergreen Cemetery.

A parade will step off at 9:45am from the Buena Vista Bank parking lot. The parade will work its way north on Route 3 to Evergreen Cemetery and then will proceed through the Avenue of Flags.

Chester American Legion, Legion Auxiliary, VFW and VFW Auxiliary along with the Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and Marching Yellow Jacket band from Chester High School will take part in the ceremony.

The guest speaker will be Dr. Mike Fogerson of the First Baptist Church in Chester. Mayor Marty Bert is also expected to offer his remarks during the ceremony.

Citizens of the Year will be recognized by the VFW. A firing squad from the VFW will provide honors to the departed comrades. Taps will also be performed.

In case of the rain, the service will be held at the VFW Hall.
