A former telecommunicator with the Sparta Police Department was arrested Saturday after law enforcement officials served a search warrant on her home.

According to the a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, the Randolph County Municipal Task Force served a search warrant Saturday at the home of Deniece Cox of Sparta. She and her husband were at home the time the search warrant was executed.

Cox was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the Randolph County Jail in Chester where she posted $100 cash bond and was released.

The task force was assisted Saturday by the Sparta Police Department.

Randolph County States Attorney Randy Rodewald said he and Sheriff Fred Frederking have had numerous conferences pertaining to drug offenders and how to curb the uprising number of drug offenders in Randolph County. Rodewald believes treatment programs for first time offenders are a step in the right direction. Not only has the possession or use of drugs increased, but it has led to the increase of other crimes to help support drug habits.
