May 6, 2008 Chester City Council approved bid for fencing at Cohen Sports Complex The Chester City Council approved a bid during their meeting Monday night for the next round of work on the softball fields at the Bud Cohen Sports Complex. The council approved a bid from Collins & Herman Fencing in the amount of $60,150. The bid covers the materials and the installation of the fencing. The city plans on opening the softball fields next spring, just in time for the start of the 2009 CHS Lady Jacket softball season. In other action from Monday night, the council approved the employment of Christy Fifer as a part-time flower/shrub maintenance employee as recommended by the Beautification Sub-Committee. The council also approved the employment of Amy Ariza, Kaile Horn, Lauriel Wingerter and Megan Atchison as employees at the municipal swimming pool. The council approved TIF Accounting for Quality Vending and approved the purchase of a new recorder for the Police Department at a cost of $11,495.20. The council approved a $5,000 donation to the Popeye Picnic Committee and passed a resolution to IDOT for the closing of a portion of Route 150 during the Popeye Picnic. The stretch of Route 150 is between Stacey and Opdyke Streets. The council’s resolution calls for that portion of highway to be closed from 4pm Friday, September 5 through Sunday, September 7 at 10pm. The request must now be approved by IDOT. Also on Monday night, the council approved an ordinance amending an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Village of Ellis Grove for the purchase of water and approved an ordinance for the purchase a plot of land for a gas line in Riley Lake. The amount spent on that parcel of land was $500. The council also passed a resolution for an ITEP Grant for a bicycle/pedestrian path and they also gave Mayor Marty Bert the green light to proceed with a month to month enrollment form with Glacial Energy to provide electrical services for the city’s municipal buildings. |
